Introduction

Steven Spielberg (Spielberg), one of the most talented movie directors in Hollywood, was also considered to be one of its most influential. His personal fortune of more than $2 billion made him one of the two wealthiest filmmakers in the world, the other being George Lucas maker of Star Wars series of movies. Spielberg had numerous critically acclaimed and commercially successful movies to his name, both as producer, director and writer. His name virtually guaranteed a project's success. Spielberg had made six out of the top twenty highest grossing movies in the US. In 2004, Spielberg's movies had collected more than $ 3 billion worldwide.

Spielberg, David Geffen (Geffen), who revolutionized the music industry single handedly and Jeffrey Katzenberg (Katzenberg), who turned around Disney had come together in early 1994 to start DreamWorks.

DreamWorks had four main divisions, movies, music, television programming and video rentals. It also produced animated feature films, home video entertainment, records, books, toys and consumer products. DreamWorks made a successful IPO in 2004 for its animation business, DreamWorks Animation. In 2005, DreamWorks Animation had a market value of more than $4 billion, close to that of its chief rival Pixar ($4.5 billion). DreamWorks had a great year in 2004. Shrek 2, a record-breaking animation film, made at a cost of $70 million collected close to $920 million worldwide, the highest collected by an animation movie ever...
